Chinese Brush Painting Workshop for Kids & Families
When Cherries Meet Banana Leaves

This 90-minute workshop invites children and families to explore Chinese brush painting through the graceful forms of banana leaves and the vibrant colors of summer cherries.

Participants will learn basic brush painting techniques, experiment with brushstrokes and color blending, and create their own artwork to take home. No prior experience is needed, and all materials are provided.

Recommended for children ages 6 and up. Open to children and their accompanying adults only. Space is limited to 20 participants, and registration is encouraged through the library.

HYBA Launches Summer Art Series with Watermelon Fan Chinese Brush Painting Workshop

On June 27,  HYBA launched the first session of its Summer Art Series at Linda Vista Library with a hands-on Chinese brush painting workshop for children and families.Starting with one small fan, art brought people from different backgrounds together through creativity. Through youth-led programs like this, HYBA continues to bring warm and engaging cross-cultural experiences to the community.

HYBA Hosts Tea & Calm Green Tea Culture Workshop for Kids & Families

On June 13, HYBA hosted Tea & Calm, a Chinese green tea cultural workshop for kids and families at Linda Vista Library. Through music, sensory exploration, and hands-on learning, participants were introduced to the beauty of Chinese tea culture in a calm and accessible way. The workshop offered families a gentle space to slow down, experience cultural traditions, and create a tea-inspired keepsake to take home.

Song Brocade Comes to Life in HYBA’s Mother’s Day Keepsake Workshop

On May 9, HYBA hosted a Mother’s Day Song Brocade keepsake workshop at Linda Vista Library. Youth and families explored traditional Chinese silk-inspired patterns, color symbolism, and decorative design while creating handmade keepsakes to take home. The workshop offered a warm, hands-on way to connect cultural heritage with family-centered creativity.

HYBA Hosts Spring Blossom Chinese Painting Workshop at Linda Vista Library

On April 18, HYBA hosted a hands-on Chinese brush painting workshop, “Spring Blossoms,” at the Linda Vista Library in San Diego. The session introduced youth and families to traditional ink painting techniques, an art form with a history spanning thousands of years, and participants created their own spring blossom artworks. The workshop provided an engaging cultural experience, reflecting HYBA’s mission to promote cross-cultural understanding through youth-led programs.

HYBA Joins the UCSD CSSA Spring Festival Gala

On February 28, Sophia Hu, founder of HYBA, participated in the UCSD CSSA Spring Festival Gala, performing traditional Chinese music as part of a cultural ensemble celebrating the Lunar New Year. Through the performance, HYBA shared Chinese musical heritage with a diverse university audience, using traditional arts to promote cultural exchange and connect youth communities with broader public audiences.

HYBA Collaborates with Linda Vista Library on a Traditional Chinese Calligraphy Workshop for Youth

On February 21, HYBA hosted Writing Fu, a free Chinese calligraphy workshop for youth, in collaboration with Linda Vista Library and listed on the official library event calendar.The workshop introduced participants to the cultural meaning of the character “Fu” (福) in Chinese tradition and basic brush techniques. The program provided a hands-on cultural experience for youth and was open to the public at no cost.

HYBA Invited to Share Traditional Chinese Calligraphy Culture,  02/17, 2026 · San Diego, CA

On February 17, HYBA was invited to a local architecture school’s Lunar New Year celebration to share the cultural meaning of Fu (福) in Chinese tradition. A small benefit sale was also held, with proceeds supporting HYBA’s youth-led traditional arts programs.

HYBA participated in the 2nd Annual Benefit Concert organized by San Diego RefugeeNet and the Refugee Children’s Organization of Tech & Science, sharing music to support refugee youth.
